Hyperhidrosis is the scientific name for excessive, hard-to-control sweating that affects up to 5% of the population. Hyperhidrosis can occur in areas such as the armpits, palms and soles, but also in the face, scalp, groin and underarms. It is most commonly a chronic idiopathic condition. However, secondary medical conditions or medication should be ruled out. Diagnosis is established anamnestically (following discussion with the patient) and by direct clinical examination of the affected area.
