How does botulinum toxin therapy work?<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Botulinum toxin injection produces muscle relaxation, acting at the muscle level by blocking the release of the chemical mediator acetylcholine from nerve endings. Muscle relaxation is temporary and return to baseline is gradual. The effect appears quickly, 3-4 days after injection and is maximal after 1-2 weeks. The time interval between injections is specific to each patient, with a minimum of 16 weeks and an average of 6 months.<\/p>\n

In axillary hyperhidrosis, the toxin may temporarily inhibit sweat gland secretion. Clinical studies have shown an optimal effect for 4 to 7.5 months and about 30% of patients will still show the effect after 1 year.<\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div> \n\n\t
