Have you been in the sun all summer and now you wake up with brown spots on your cheeks, forehead or upper lip? You're not alone! It's called melasmaOne of the most common cosmetic problems for women, and the news isn't great: these spots are accentuated in the sun and don't disappear with foundation.

But there is good news: fall is the ideal season to treat them.

"As the intensity of the sun's rays is reduced, the skin responds much better to treatments, whether peels, microdermabrasion or advanced lasers such as ClearLift or CO2"says Dr. Amalia Anghel, Primary Dermatology at Skinmed Clinic.

Summer brings spots, fall brings solutions

UV rays and even visible light stimulate melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. The result? More and more obvious spots. Hormones, genetic predisposition and some cosmetics can make it worse.

"Melasma is a chronic and relapsing condition. It does not disappear overnight and requires a complex and consistent strategy"explains Dr. Amalia Anghel.

How to put them on the run

Sun protection - Golden rule. Without SPF reapplied daily, treatments don't work.

"Photo protection is a must"warns the doctor.

Depigmenting cream - with hydroquinone, tretinoin or milder acids (kojic, azelaic), chosen according to skin type.

In-office procedures - superficial peels, microdermabrasion or microneedling with special serums.

Laser, the high-tech weapon - modern therapies such as ClearLift or CO₂ laser, can remove stubborn stains.

"Our treatments are complex protocols. Alongside creams, we also recommend laser or minimally invasive procedures, tailored to each patient"says Dr. Amalia Anghel.

Why fall is the "perfect season" for "repairs"

In addition to the sun not being as aggressive, fall gives you time for longer treatments, more sessions and time to prepare your skin for winter.

"Patients who start therapies in the fall are much more likely to get visible and stable results"says the doctor.

Warning: the stains do not disappear permanently!

Melasma can be kept under control, but requires discipline.

"Maintaining results means consistency. Patients must understand that melasma is not permanently cured, but can be kept under control with the right plan", underlines Dr. Amalia Anghel, Primary Dermatology at Skinmed Clinic.

So, if summer has left you with unpleasant memories on your complexion, fall is the time to act. With modern treatments and personalized plans by specialists, your skin can be even and radiant again!
