HOW DOES IT WORK?

Correction of dark circles at SKINMED®. Success without a scalpel

Most of the time, dark circles under the eyes have a perfectly treatable cause: the blood in the capillaries around the eyes does not circulate as fast and the darker venous blood darkens the area. Apart from the 'fold' type of dark circles under the eyes with excess skin, which need surgical treatment, there are highly effective non-surgical therapies for all other types.

Types of treatments against dark circles under the eyes performed in SKINMED®

The dermatological consultation is designed to identify the treatment you need, depending on the appearance of your dark circles and anatomical features.

Correction of dark circles with hyaluronic acid

See details

Hyaluronic acid can correct exaggerated skin laxity, with a remodelling effect and acceleration of the natural process of synthesis of supporting fibres, inducing elasticity, firmness and tone. Injection should be done by doctors as it is a delicate procedure requiring care, special technique and the right type of filler and moisturiser. The effects are immediately visible and last for 6 months to 2 years. Because the success of the treatment depends on the quality of the substance used, in SKINMED®, we use Juvederm, the best hyaluronic acid on the market today.

Correction of dark circles with mesotherapy

See details

Mesotherapy involves the introduction of a cocktail of substances by microinjections, determined by the specialist according to the patient's needs and situation. It contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, hyaluronic acid, trace elements, etc. It can also be adapted to correct hyperpigmentation of the lower eyelid area. Mesotherapy is associated, for long-term effects, with the infiltration of thrombocyte-enriched plasma (P.R.P., plasmolifting) on the affected area. This will lead to the regeneration of skin tissue that has been damaged over time by poor oxygenation.

Correction of dark circles with laser therapy

See details

ClearLift, from the platform Harmony from Alma Lasers, is a laser technology that works effectively on the fine tegument of the upper and lower eyelids. Through this treatment fine wrinkles, texture, skin quality, firmness is restored and lower eyelid pigmentation is corrected. A complete protocol includes 4-6 sessions, spaced every month. It is an extremely valuable procedure because it allows us to act on complex eyelid problems with absolutely remarkable results.

Correction of dark circles using proprietary plasma therapy

See details

TPlatelet-Enriched Plasma Therapy is an injectable treatment based on the patient's own blood. It stimulates collagen secretion, regenerates skin tissue, helping to rejuvenate cells. Growth hormones are also released into the tissue, which amplifies the healing and regeneration process.
Used for cosmetic purposes, it is a safe procedure, with very few contraindications to the procedure. The most common undesirable reactions are redness and mild to moderate swelling of the treated area that persists for a very short period of time.

Frequently asked questions

What are dark circles?

Dark circles are a multifactorial pathology and a challenge in the world of medical aesthetics. They are the result of a multitude of factors, such as facial anatomy, soft tissue changes and skin changes. There is a wide range of treatments available, and a personalised therapy is required depending on the characteristics of each patient.

How many types of dark circles are there and what treatments are suitable for each?

Because there are many different types of dark circles under the eyes, a dermatological consultation is an essential first step in identifying the problem and establishing personalised treatment for each individual patient.

  1. Conformation sheets

In the case of contour dark circles, where the tear trough is visible, the best treatment option is to volumise (fill) them with hyaluronic acid dedicated to this area. In SKINMED® we use the best hyaluronic acid, brand Juvederm. For each individual patient dosed in appropriate amounts and by safe techniques.

  1. Colour (pigmented) sheets Pigmentation is one of the most common problems, but it can be improved by minimally invasive therapies such as mesotherapy or laser treatments. Following a specialist consultation, in SKINMED® each patient receives personalised treatment - a specific therapy or a mix of treatments may be recommended.
  2. Visible bags and excess lower/upper eyelid

These are improperly called dark circles, as they are caused by the accumulation of lymph in the lower eyelid. Once they become chronic, they do not go away on their own. In SKINMED® you can improve their unsightly appearance with laser therapies. Only in the case of massive excess skin can it be removed following a surgical procedure called blepharoplasty.

  1. Mixed sheets

When dark circles are also pigmented and affected by lack of volume in the lower eyelid area, they can be treated with mesotherapy (to remove any pigmentation) followed by hyaluronic acid volumisation. Juvederm.

Fine wrinkles in the outer corner of the eye are a common eye problem and can be quickly corrected with botulinum toxin injections.

Why do dark circles appear?

The origin of dark circles under the eyes is due to causal factors that include both endogenous (anatomical features, gender, genetic predisposition, physiological ageing, atopic dermatitis, skin xerosis, etc.) and exogenous factors.
The anatomical peculiarities of each patient can cause infraorbital pigmentation to appear through changes that occur with advancing age, through loss of volume in the malar bones, retraction of the lower edge of the orbital fossa and stiffening of the ligaments, resulting in deepening of the dark circles and their shadowing.

The thickness of the skin at the level of the eyelids is minimal, being one of the thinnest regions of the body, thus, by its transparency, it allows the subcutaneous structures to be visible, visibility that is accentuated with physiological ageing by the loss of elasticity associated with a low production of elastin and collagen.
